Background Constipation is one of the common symptoms in childhood. The prevalence of FC is about 0.5–32% and still on the rise according to global statistics. The aim of this study is to explore the associations between family-related factors (e.g., parental conflict, parenting style, and parent-child relationship) and functional constipation of preschool children based on family system theory. Methods The study is a case-control survey of preschoolers in China. In total, 108 preschoolers with functional constipation diagnosed with pediatric Rome IV criteria and 324 healthy examination preschoolers without functional constipation were enrolled in the study. Parents completed the following 5 instruments: General information questionnaire, the Parental Conflict Scale, the Parenting Style Questionnaire, the Child-parent Relationship Scale and the Children's Emotional Adjustment Scale-Preschool Version. Results Nine categories of factors which significantly predicted functional constipation in preschoolers were retained in the final logistic regression model: Second child in birth order (OR = 0.456; 95% CI, 0.229 to 0.910), children picky eating (OR = 2.936; 95% CI, 1.133 to 7.611), bad bowel habits (OR = 2.896; 95% CI, 1.391 to 6.028), parental history of constipation (OR = 3.259; 95% CI, 1.600 to 6.639), parents blaming the child for having a bad bowel movement (OR = 3.788; 95% CI, 1.391 to 10.318), more than 3 hours of fathers-child interaction time per day (OR = 0.137; 95% CI, 0.024 to 0.778), parental conflict (OR = 1.981; 95% CI, 0.950 to 3.831), doting or authoritarian family style (OR = 1.644; 95% CI, 1.067 to 2.534, OR = 2.481; 95% CI, 1.362 to 4.519), and anxiety control or temper control in children (OR = 0.492; 95% CI, 0.303 to 0.799, OR = 0.189; 95% CI, 0.103 to 0.348). Conclusions This study identified the significant associations between family-related factors and functional constipation in preschool children, which provide implications for healthcare professionals to address functional constipation in early childhood using a preventive lens.
Objective. To identify fatty acid metabolism-related biomarkers of aortic valve calcification (AVC) using bioinformatics and to research the role of immune cell infiltration for AVC. Methods. The AVC dataset was retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. R package is used for differential expression genes analysis and weighted gene coexpression analysis. The differentially coexpressed genes were identified by the Venn diagram, followed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses of differentially coexpressed genes. Functions closely related to AVC were identified by GO and KEGG enrichment analyses of differentially coexpressed genes. Genes related to fatty acid metabolism were retrieved from the Molecular Signatures Database (MSigDB) database. After removing duplicate genes, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis, support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE), and random forest were applied to recognize biomarkers related to fatty acid metabolism in AVC. The CIBERSORT tool was used to analyze infiltration of immune cells in normal and AVC samples. Correlations between biomarkers and immune cells were calculated. Finally, HIBCH-related pathway was predicted by single-gene gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). Results. 2416 differentially expressed genes and one coexpression module were identified. A total of 1473 differentially coexpressed genes were acquired. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses demonstrated that differentially coexpressed genes were closely related to fatty acid metabolism. LASSO regression analysis, SVM-REF, and random forest revealed that 3-hydroxyisobutyryl-CoA hydrolase (HIBCH) was a biomarker of fatty acid metabolism-related genes in AVC. Significant high levels of memory B cells were found in AVC than normal samples, while activated natural killer (NK) cells were significantly low in AVC than normal samples. A significantly positive relevance was observed between HIBCH and activated NK cells, regulatory T cells, monocytes, naïve B cells, activated dendritic cells, resting memory CD4 T cells, resting NK cells, and CD8 T cells. A significantly negative relevance was observed between HIBCH and activated memory CD4 T cells, memory B cells, neutrophils, gamma delta T cells, M0 macrophages, and plasma cells. The single-gene GSEA results suggest that HIBCH may work through the inhibition of multiple immune-related pathways. Conclusion. HIBCH is closely relevant to immune cell infiltration in AVC and could be applied as a diagnostic marker for AVC.
Background: It is essential to implement parent-targeted interventions to increase the use of child restraint systems (CRS) and thus reduce the injuries and deaths of children due to motor vehicle collisions.To optimize future intervention designs, this meta-analysis sought to quantify the effects of parent-targeted interventions and explore potential intervention moderators.Methods: Studies met inclusion criteria if they included a parents-targeted intervention that focused on increasing CRS use for children, published from the inception of the databases to January 2022, were systematically retrieved from the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Sinomed, Wanfang, and CNKI databases. Next, 2 researchers independently screened the retrieved articles, evaluated their quality according to the Cochrane Tool, and extracted the data. Finally, Stata12.0 was used for the metaanalysis. Heterogeneity was examined with I 2 , stratified analyses, and meta-regression.Results: Of the 1,690 articles retrieved, 9 studies, comprising 22,329 parents of children aged 0-12 years, were ultimately included in the analysis. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the CRS use rate of the intervention group was 1.62 times higher than that of the control group [95% confidence interval (CI):1.25-2.11, Z=3.616, P<0.001], indicating the positive effect of parent-targeted interventions on promoting the use of CRS. The subgroup analysis found that interventions guided by behavioral theories increased the use of CRS (odds ratio: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.27-1.63, n=5). The difference in the use of CRS between the groups in the studies that were not guided by theories was not statistically significant, indicating that interventions guided by behavioral theories may be the source of the heterogeneity. Risk of bias was low in most studies. Conclusions: It is necessary to conduct interventions with parents to increase the use of CRS. The effects on CRS use appear to differ depending on whether the interventions are guided by behavioral theories. Indepth research needs to be conducted to explore the characteristics of the interventions, especially those guided by different behavioral theories, to reduce child vehicle injuries.
Background Children's injuries from traffic accidents have been identified as a global public health issue. Child restraint system (CRS) is a useful tool for lowering the risk of injury to children. Nevertheless, CRS usage is really low in China. The goal of the current study was to investigate the use of CRS after the legislation revised in China and to explore the influencing factors based on Information, Motivation, and Behavioral Skills model (IMB). Methods The study is a cross-sectional survey of parents who took their 0 to 6-year-old children for seeking primary care services at the Children Preventive Health Care Clinic of a tertiary hospital in Shandong Province, China. Parents were invited to complete the self-administered questionnaire between March and June 2022, including their knowledge, motivation, and behavioral skills, use behavior of CRS and socio-demographics. Ordinal logistic regression was used to explore the factors associated with CRS use by using SPSS software (version 26.0). Results In total, 442 parents participated in the study; 56.1% (n = 201) of the parents utilized CRS for their child passengers, however only 29.0% used CRS frequently. The result of logistic regression analysis show that parents with junior college (OR = 0.398, 95%CI: 0.185 ~ 0.857), possessing a high family economic status(OR = 0.225, 95%CI: 0.088 ~ 0.578), being trained on children’s unintentional injuries(OR = 0.435,95%CI: 0.272 ~ 0.695), and having high scores on CRS riding mode cognition(OR = 0.476, 95%CI: 0.368 ~ 0.616), CRS type cognition(OR = 0.519, 95%CI: 0.392 ~ 0.689), CRS use motivation(OR = 0.392, 95%CI: 0.295 ~ 0.520) and installation skills(OR = 0.559, 95%CI:0.411 ~ 0.761) were the main factors promoting the usage of CRS. Conclusions This study found that the use of CRS can be increased by improving parents' knowledge, motivation and behavior skills and hence related educational programs is necessary for increasing CRS use in China.
