Measurements are presented of the statistics of the energy distribution between the longitudinal modes of a miniature TEA CO2 laser. Correlations exist between the fluctuations on different modes. on account of competition for the limited available excitation energy. The fluctuations on each mode are characteristic of the effects of quantum fluctuations in the radiation in the mode early in the pulse while the laser is near threshold.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
