Effective capture and release of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with high viability is still a challenge in medical research. We design a novel approach with efficient yield and high cell activity for the capture and release of CTCs. Our platform is based on TiO nanorod arrays coated with transparent MnO nanoparticles. We use hydrothermal synthesis to prepare TiO nanorod arrays, the MnO nanoparticles are fabricated through in situ self-assembly on the substrate to form a monolayer and etched by oxalic acid with low concentration at room temperature. Up to 92.9% of target cells are isolated from the samples using our capture system and the captured cells can be released from the platform, the saturated release efficiency is 89.9%. Employing lower than 2 × 10 M concentration of oxalic acid to dissolve MnO, the viability of MCF-7 cancer cells exceed 90%. Such a combination of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional platforms provides a new approach isolate CTCs from patient blood samples.
Pretreatment by Nd:YAG laser irradiation appeared to have a positive effect on the adhesive-dentin bonding in vitro test, and the bonding effectiveness could be preserved after aging.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of chlorhexidine on the bonding durability of etchand-rinse and self-etch adhesive systems using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) thermocycling method. Methods: Twenty freshly extracted intact human third molars were ground and bonded with either an etch-and-rinse adhesive (Single-Bond) or a self-etch adhesive (G-Bond). Specimens were either left untouched or placed in PCR tubes filled with three thermocycling mediums: water, chlorhexidine or silicone oil. Thermocycling (5000 cycles) was done using the PCR programme at temperatures of 5°C and 55°C. The microtensile bond strength (lTBS) was evaluated and interfacial nanoleakage was assessed by scanning electron microscopy before and after thermocycling. Results: Significant differences were detected among groups kept in different media after thermocycling. For Single-Bond, both the chlorhexidine and silicone oil groups could preserve the lTBS (p < 0.001). For G-Bond, lTBS of the chlorhexidine and water groups were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). No obvious increase in silver deposition was observed in specimens incubated in water after thermocycling, less silver penetration was found in specimens incubated in chlorhexidine. Conclusions: In this experimental model, chlorhexidine was found to preserve bonding durability in Single-Bond but have no significant effects on G-Bond.
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of halogen light irradiation on hydrogen peroxide (HP) bleaching by assessing HP concentrations, tooth whitening efficacy, and temperature variations in bleaching agents and pulp chambers. Methods: Sixteen premolars were randomly divided into two groups: Group BL (bleaching agent with halogen light irradiation for 3 · 10 minutes) and Group B (bleaching agent alone). HP concentrations were tested before and after treatment. CIE L*a*b* values of specimens were obtained using a spectrophotometer. Temperatures of bleaching gels and pulpal chambers were recorded by a digital multimeter with K-type thermocouple. Data were analysed using ANOVA and paired t-test. Results: After treatment, HP concentration in group BL was slightly higher than that in group B. Paired t-tests revealed significant differences of DE between groups BL and B in all time intervals except at day 35. The temperature rise of bleaching gels and pulpal chambers in group BL was significantly higher than that in group B. Conclusions: In-office bleaching was effective for tooth whitening. The involvement of halogen light was beneficial for the immediate whitening effect but had little impact on the long-term whitening effect.
The purpose of this study was to determine if the actual concentration of bleaching agents available in four different countries were the same as the label indicated and within the recommendations of the International Standard on Tooth Whitening. The method recommended for assaying peroxide by the United States Pharmacopeia was used to determine concentrations. All products in the United States and China were within the standard when products were tested immediately upon delivery at testing sites. One product in Saudi Arabia and three products in Brazil had greater than 30% concentration loss. Three of 24 products in the United States did not meet the International Standard when they were tested at month of expiration.
