Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is a promising technique for achieving the high bit rates required for a wireless multimedia service. Without channel estimation and tracking, OFDM systems have to use differential phase-shift keying (DPSK), which has a 3-dB signalto-noise ratio (SNR) loss compared with coherent phase-shift keying (PSK). To improve the performance of OFDM systems by using coherent PSK, we investigate robust channel estimation for OFDM systems. We derive a minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) channel estimator, which makes full use of the timeand frequency-domain correlations of the frequency response of time-varying dispersive fading channels. Since the channel statistics are usually unknown, we also analyze the mismatch of the estimator-to-channel statistics and propose a robust channel estimator that is insensitive to the channel statistics. The robust channel estimator can significantly improve the performance of OFDM systems in a rapid dispersive fading channel.

Abstract-In this paper, a scheme for estimating frequencies and damping factors of multidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data is presented. multidimensional NMR data can be modeled as the sum of several multidimensional damped sinusoids. The estimated frequencies and damping factors of multidimensional NMR data play important roles in determining protein structures. In this paper we present a high-resolution subspace method for estimating the parameters of NMR data. Unlike other methods, this algorithm makes full use of the rank-deficiency and Hankel properties of the prediction matrix composed of NMR data. Hence, it can estimate the signal parameters under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by using a few data points. The effectiveness of the new algorithm is confirmed by computer simulations and it is tested by experimental data.

Channel information is required for OFDM systems with multiple transmit and receive antennas exploiting antenna diversity. In this paper, we present tecliniques to improve the performance and reduce the complexity of channel parameter estimation: optimzm training sequence design and simplified channel estimation. The optimal training sequences not only simplify the initial channel estimation but also attain the best estimation performance. The simplified channel estimation significantly reduces the complexity of the channel estimation at the expense of a negligible performance degradation.

In this paper, we investigate parameter tracking of spatial-temporal equalization for IS-136 TDMA cellular/PCS systems. We present three parameter tracking algorithms in this papei:: the diagonal loading minimum mean-square-error algorithm, which uses the diagonal loading to improve tracking ability, the 2-stage trucking algorithm, which USBS diagonal loading in combination with a reduced complexity architecture, and the simplified &-stage tracking algorithm, which further reduces complexity to one .U x M and one 3 x 3 matrix inversion for weight calculation with M antennas.
