Objective: Ethanol and methanol extracts of wild and tissue cultured were studied and compared for Cadaba fruticosa its antimicrobial activity against six human pathogenic organisms and anticancer activity against HeLa cancer cell lines. : Antimicrobial activity of Wild ethanol, Micropropagated/ tissue Materials and Methods Cadapa fruticosa cultured plant ethanol, Wild methanol, Micropropagated/tissue cultured plant methanol (WCFE, Cadapa fruticosa MCFE, WCFM and MCFM) plant extracts were investigated by well diffusion susceptibility method and also in vitro cytotoxicity activity was studied by MTT assay at different concentration : The results. Results and Conclusion showed that the highest zone of inhibition was obtained in (14±0.82 mm and 08±1.05mm) at 60 µl Escherichia coli concentration of wild and tissue cultured ethanol extracts. Whereas in methanol extract the highest Cadaba fruticosa zone of inhibition (14±0.14 mm and 09±0.12 mm) in 60 µl concentration against and Streptococcus pyogenes Staphylococcus aureus. In both the cases the activity of the extract was less against fungal pathogens. The higher percentage of anticancer activity was observed in wild and tissue cultured of ethanol extracts with Cadaba fruticosa 53.14 and 54.78 at 5 mg/ml concentration. Whereas in wild and tissue cultured methanol extracts Cadaba fruticosa treatment were 52.58 and 51.39 respectively. The percentage of inhibition was increased with the increasing concentration. The IC value of wild and tissue cultured ethanol extracts were 260.36 mg/ml and 50 Cadaba fruticosa 268.05 mg/ml, methanol extracts were 273.71 mg/ml and 286.73 mg/ml respectively. Results of this study are important because these results confirmed the use of tissue cultured plants instead of natural plants. However more investigation are needed to identity the active principles and its molecular mechanism to explain their therapeutic efficacy.
Baccharoides anthelmintica (L.) Moench. is an annual herb distributed throughout India, this plant has high trade value because of its many medicinal properties such as inflammatory swelling, stomachache, diuretic properties, cough, fever, diuretic, leprosy, piles, dropsy, enzyme, ringworm herpes, elephantiasis, incontinence of urine, stomach ache and rheumatism, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-cancer. Antiangiogenic activity of ethanol leaf and leaf callus extracts was tested through in vivo CAM (Chorioallantoic membrane) model. Both leaf and leaf derived callus showed higher angiogenic activity 79.33 and 66.0 percentage respectively at 40 µg/mL concentration. The average number of vessels in leaf and leaf derived callus extracts treated CAM was 2 and 3 respectively. Inhibition percentage and vessel number of both the extracts was almost Chinnadurai et al.; BJPR, 13(5): 1-9, 2016; Article no.BJPR.28758 2 equal in both the concentrations. The cytotoxicity of leaf and leaf derived callus was tested using the MTT assay (HeLa cell line). At a concentration of 300 mg/mL, both the tested samples produced cytotoxic effect as evidenced by the number of dead cells (24.3%, 16.34% respectively).
