Health care differed significantly between Eastern and Western Europe in all items, but satisfaction rates were high in both geographic regions. Because of the low awareness and the rising incidence of IBD, general information should be the focus of patient organizations and medical societies. In Western Europe IBD nurses play a very important role in reducing the burden of patient management.
There is paucity of data on the transition of adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from paediatric to adult services. IBD nurses could play a crucial role in coordinating transition care. In this article, Yasmine Houston, James O Lindsay, Huw Jenkins, Sarah McCartney, Tariq Ahmad, Ian Arnott, Nick Croft, Richard Russell and Shaji Sebastian report on a survey of 106 IBD nurses regarding their views and experiences of transition care.
