Objective: To examine the associations between inflammatory markers, coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters, and microvascular complications in 182 Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who sought treatment at a large hospital in Zhejiang province, China. Methods:We investigated the relationships of blood inflammatory markers with hemostatic markers in 87 patients with T2DM who did not have complications and 95 patients with T2DM who had microvascular complications.Results: C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were significantly correlated with fibrinogen, thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT III), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), von Willebrand factor (vWF), and coagulation factors (F) VII in patients with T2DM who had microvascular complications (P <.05). Based on logistic regression analysis, the highest-tertile groups of fibrinogen, FVII, and FVIII, corresponded to a greater risk of high CRP, whereas risk of high IL-6 was significantly greater in the groups with highesttertile values for fibrinogen, FVII, TAT III, PAI-1, and activated protein C (APC).Conclusions: Elevated levels of CRP and IL-6 might be associated with increased coagulability and a tendency towards thrombus formation in patients with T2DM who have microvascular complications.

Lipid metabolic disturbances are related to many diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, and certain cancers. Notably, lipid metabolic disturbances have been reported to be a risk factor for colorectal cancer. Nuclear receptors act as ligand-dependent transcription regulators and play key roles in the regulation of body lipid metabolism and the development of many cancers. Retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor α (RORα) is a nuclear receptor and can regulate several lipid metabolism genes in certain cancers. Herein, we demonstrate that the conditioned medium from adipocytes has a proproliferative and promigratory effect on colorectal cancer cells and enhances angiogenesis in chicken embryonic chorioallantoic membranes. In addition, the conditioned medium leads to a decrease in the expression of RORα and its target genes. Meanwhile, RORα and its target gene expressions are lower in human colorectal tumor tissue compared with control colorectal tissue. Activation of RORα inhibits the effect of conditioned medium on the proliferation and migration of colorectal cancer cells as well as the angiogenesis in chicken embryonic allantoic membranes. In colorectal cancer cells, the putative ligand of RORα, cholesterol sulfate (CS), prevents cell cycle progression at the G1/S boundary and concurrently modulates the expression of cell cycle-regulatory genes in colorectal cancer cell. CS inhibits angiogenesis in chicken embryonic chorioallantoic membranes and concurrently decreases the mRNA expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α as well as the secretion of VEGF. In addition, lipogenic gene expression is higher in human colorectal tumor tissue compared with control colorectal tissue. CS inhibits the expression of lipogenic genes in colorectal cancer cells. These results suggest that RORα could represent a direct link between local lipid metabolism of colorectal tissue and colorectal cancer. Therefore, the reduction of the expression of RORα could represent a potential warning sign of colorectal cancer.

The recombinant plasmid pGEM4Z-ras DNA which was methylated on dam and dcm sites outside the PvuII recognition sequence was digested with restriction endonuclease PvuII, and one of the three PvuII sites was about 16-fold less efficient to cleave than either of the other two. On the contrary, the three PvuII sites were cleaved at about the same rate on the unmethylated DNA molecule. The results show that the cleavage inhibition of the methylated DNA on the certain PvuII site was caused by methylation outside the PvuII recognition sequence. Maybe a adjacent methylated dam site *A was responsible for the less efficient cleavage. This observation suggests that methylation outside the recognition sequence may be considered a new factor in the kinetic experiment of restriction endonuclease.

We consider the symmetry breaking of a matter-wave soliton formed by spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) illuminated by a two-spot laser beam. This laser beam introduces spin-orbit (SO) coupling in the BECs such that the SO coupling produces an effect similar to a linear doublewell potential (DWP). It is well known that symmetry breaking in a DWP is an important effect and has been discussed in many kinds of systems. However, it has not yet been discussed in a DWP formed by SO coupling. The objective of this work is to study the symmetry breaking of spinor BECs trapped by a DWP formed by SO coupling. We find that two kinds of symmetry breaking, displacement symmetry breaking and bimodal symmetry breaking, can be obtained in this model. The influence of the symmetry transition is systematically discussed by controlling the interaction strength of the BECs and the distance between the center of the two spots. Moreover, because SO coupling violates Galilean invariance, the influence of symmetry breaking in the moving system is also addressed in this paper. PACS numbers: 03.75.Lm, 05.45.Yv I. INTRODUCTIONMatter-wave solitons have become an interesting subject of research due to their potential applications in various fields, such as atomic interferometry, quantum information processing, and atomic lasers [1]. Experimental research on a self-trapping soliton in Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) began with the creation of a dark soliton, followed by bright soliton and bright soliton trains [2][3][4][5]. Many studies have shown that a cold-atom BEC is an excellent system for studying solitons [6][7][8][9][10]. In particular, a stable bright soliton has already been shown to improve the performance of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer compared to regular BECs [11]. Thus, the creation of stable soliton has become a fascinating area of research.Recently, the Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) with the LHY correction term has been proven to be a good mechanism to generate stable quantum droplets , and the GP equation with long-range dipole-dipole interactions can also create stable matter-wave solitons in BECs [35][36][37][38][39]. With the help of spin-orbit (SO) coupling, absolutely stable (ground-state) and metastable matter-wave solitons in 2D and 3D free space have been reported [40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49]. Moreover, stable excited state solitons [50-54], gap solitons [55,56], and solitons with novel vortices [57][58][59][60][61][62] have been reported to be created by SO coupling [63,64], and similar configurations have also been realized in an optical system [65][66][67][68][69]. However, previous studies on 2D and 3D solitons in BECs with SO coupling tacitly assumed that the SO couplings were a homogeneous effect in the entire space.
