An efficient and accurate uncertainty propagation methodology for mechanics problems with random fields is developed in this paper. This methodology is based on the stochastic response surface method (SRSM) which has been previously proposed for problems dealing with random variables only. This paper extends SRSM to problems involving random fields or random processes fields. The favorable property of SRSM lies in that the deterministic computational model can be treated as a black box, as in the case of commercial finite element codes. Numerical examples are used to highlight the features of this technique and to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method. A comparison with Monte Carlo simulation shows that the proposed method can achieve numerical results close to those from Monte Carlo simulation while dramatically reducing the number of deterministic finite element runs.
Human error (HE) is the most important factor influencing on structural safety because its effect often exceeds the random deviation. Large numbers of facts have shown that structural failures may be caused by the gross error due to HE. So it is essential to analyze HE in construction. The crucial work of human error analysis (HEA) is the estimation of human error probability (HEP) in construction. The method for estimating HEP, analytic hierarchy process and failure likelihood index method (AHP-FLIM), is introduced in this paper. The method also uses the process of expert judgment within the failure likelihood index method (FLIM). A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the methods proposed.
The dynamic interaction between moving vehicles and two-span continuous guideway was discussed. With the consideration of the magnetic levitation system, the maglev vehicle/guideway dynamic interaction model was developed. Numerical simulation was performed to understand dynamic characteristics of the guideway used in practice. The results show that vehicle speed, span length and primary frequency of the guideway have an important influence on the dynamic responses of the guideway and there is no distinct trend towards resonance vibration when f1 equals 1.0. The definite way is to control the impact coefficient and acceleration of the guideway. The conclusions can serve the design of high speed maglev guideway.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
