Patients exposed to a surgical safety checklist experience better postoperative outcomes, but this could simply reflect wider quality of care in hospitals where checklist use is routine.
These preliminary results showed that intratumoral administration of KH901 was feasible, well tolerated and associated with biological activity, further investigation of KH901, particularly in combination with systemic chemotherapy, was warranted.
The risk factors and the role of prophylactic antiviral therapy of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in patients with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative/hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb) positive disease remain controversial. We reviewed 629 patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Among 629 patients, 150 of 246 patients with resolved HBV (HBsAg negative and HBcAb positive) were treated with rituximab-combined therapy. Among these 150 patients, none of 104 patients (0.0%) who were hepatitis B surface antibody (HBsAb) positive experienced HBV reactivation versus four of 46 patients (8.7%) who were HBsAb negative (p = 0.008). One of 113 patients (0.9%) with International Prognostic Index (IPI) 0-2 suffered HBV reactivation versus three of the remaining 37 patients (8.1%) with IPI 3-5 (p = 0.047). HBsAb and IPI are potential risk factors for HBV reactivation. The use of prophylactic agents may not be recommended for these patients until the occurrence of HBV reactivation.
The prognosis for patients with metastatic bladder cancer (BCa) is poor, and it is not improved by current treatments. RNA-binding motif protein X-linked (RBMX) are involved in the regulation of the malignant progression of various tumors. However, the role of RBMX in BCa tumorigenicity and progression remains unclear. In this study, we found that RBMX was significantly downregulated in BCa tissues, especially in muscle-invasive BCa tissues. RBMX expression was negatively correlated with tumor stage, histological grade and poor patient prognosis. Functional assays demonstrated that RBMX inhibited BCa cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion in vitro and suppressed tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistic investigations revealed that hnRNP A1 was an RBMX-binding protein. RBMX competitively inhibited the combination of the RGG motif in hnRNP A1 and the sequences flanking PKM exon 9, leading to the formation of lower PKM2 and higher PKM1 levels, which attenuated the tumorigenicity and progression of BCa. Moreover, RBMX inhibited aerobic glycolysis through hnRNP A1-dependent PKM alternative splicing and counteracted the PKM2 overexpression-induced aggressive phenotype of the BCa cells. In conclusion, our findings indicate that RBMX suppresses BCa tumorigenicity and progression via an hnRNP A1-mediated PKM alternative splicing mechanism. RBMX may serve as a novel prognostic biomarker for clinical intervention in BCa.
ObjectiveThe systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) based on neutrophil, platelet and lymphocyte counts, is a prognostic biomarker in some solid cancers. However, the prognostic value of SII has not yet been validated. This study was to evaluate the role of SII in predicting survival for patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL).MethodsWe retrospectively investigated 224 patients with DLBCL between August 2005 and October 2018. Kaplan–Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard models were used to assess the prognostic value of SII.ResultsIn the ROC curve analysis, SII had the highest AUC and was more accurate as a prognostic factor. Patients with higher SII tended to have higher level of LDH, more advanced stage, poor PS, and high IPI score compared with low SII group. In univariate analyses, SII, PLR and NLR were all prognostic for progression-free survival and overall survival. Moreover, only SII, older age, HBSAg-positive and IPI were the independent prognostic factors for patients in multivariate analysis. The nomogram based on SII, older age, HBSAg status and IPI showed accurate prognostic ability for predicting 3-years and 5-years survival rates (c-index, 0.791) compared to the IPI alone (c-index, 0.716).ConclusionSII was a powerful tool for predicting outcome in patients with DLBCL. It might assist the separation of high-risk patients among patients with the same IPI.
The objective of this paper was to observe the effect of low-level combined- or single-laser irradiation on bradycardia produced by pituitrin in rabbits. A combined-laser apparatus was made. A 10.6-microm CO2 laser and a 650-nm semiconductor laser, transmitted by different optical fibers, converged to output and irradiate on the Neiguan (PC6) acupuncture point in rabbits with bradycardia produced by pituitrin. Thirty minutes after the model was set, the heart rates of the combined-laser Neiguan group made quicker recoveries than those of the model control group, the laser-control group, or the single-laser Neiguan group (P<0.05), and the heart rates of the single-CO2-laser Neiguan group were similar to those of the normal group (P>0.05). However, there were significant differences between the 650-nm-laser Neiguan group and the normal control group (P<0.05). The combined-laser irradiation certainly has a curative effect on bradycardia produced by pituitrin. A single CO2 laser could accelerate the recovery from bradycardia, while single 650-nm-laser irradiation on the Neiguan acupoint does not produce such an effect.
