Purpose Technological developments have made it possible for organizations to use enterprise resource planning (ERP) services without indulging in heavy investments like IT infrastructure, trained manpower for implementation and maintenance and updating the systems regularly to maintain business competitiveness. Plug and play model offered by cloud ERP has led to a constant creation of large data sets which are structured, semi-structured and unstructured by nature. Thus, there has been a need to analyze such complex data sets and the purpose of this paper is to focus on how cloud ERP and big data predictive analytics (BDPA) will impact the performance of a firm. Design/methodology/approach A dynamic capability view (DCV) theory-based model was developed and the authors have collected data by using an online questionnaire from India. Thereafter, the authors have analyzed it by employing structural equation modeling. Findings SEM analysis of 231 respondents showcases that the use of DCV theory to define the relationships of cloud ERP and BDPA has been the right move. Out of the 13 hypotheses empirically tested, only 7 hypotheses were supported by the data. Research limitations/implications The study showcases cross-sectional data from India. It would be interesting for this study to see if the country-level differences would influence these relationships between cloud ERP and financial performance, BDPA and financial performance and cloud ERP and BDPA. Originality/value This study empirically tests the relationship of cloud ERP and BDPA through a model based on DCV theory.

Problem definition: We explore the coordination of operational and financial decisions of proportional investment agricultural marketing cooperatives, where members’ (farmers’) equity is required to be in proportion to their patronage (i.e., produce supplied). Academic/practical relevance: In a cooperative (co-op), operational and financial decisions are inseparable because the co-op’s investment capital is linked to its economic transactions with members. We include unique features of co-ops into an analytical model and derive some key results that are different from those for investor-owned corporations. Methodology: In the presence of yield and market uncertainty, we model this situation using a Markov decision process wherein the decisions of processing quantity interact with the financial decisions of retained earnings and short-term loans. The objective is to maximize the expected present value of the aggregated farmers’ payments over a finite horizon. Results: (1) Characterization of the properties of the value function and the optimal policy; (2) explicit expressions for the deterministic yield dynamic program, wherein a myopic policy is optimal; and (3) identification of financial risks associated with uncertain market and yield. Managerial implications: The results provide insight into a co-op’s decision making, cash position, and risk management.

China has adopted an array of special social security measures in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, to mitigate the downside social and economic impacts caused by the pandemic. Measures include the reduction, exemption and deferral of social security contributions by employers, the extension of benefits coverage for employees, and the provision of more accessible e-services by social insurance agencies. The article points out that a preliminary assessment of those measures would suggest that they have played a key role in supporting social cohesion and in stabilizing the economy. In a critical manner, the article compares the measures adopted in China with those of other countries, and identifies how China could learn from international practice and experience. Finally, and based on recent Chinese experience, the article presents proposals that seek to improve the longer-term contribution made by the Chinese social security system to realize the goals of social cohesion and inclusive economic development.
