The role of prenatal depression on physical and mental health among women in mainland China has not been previously investigated. The aim of this research was to (a) calculate the prevalence of depression during pregnancy, (b) explore the relationship between depression sample characteristics and quality of life and (c) identify predictors of physical and mental health among pregnant women. This study was designed as a cross-sectional and exploratory survey. A total of 454 pregnant women participated in the study between December 2009 and June 2010 in central China. The data was collected using the Medical Outcomes Study short form 36 v2 and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Participants were recruited at outpatient departments of obstetrics and gynecology. Findings show that almost 40% of pregnant women experience prenatal depression. Depression was significantly associated with physical and mental health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Depression, increased age, higher gestational age, being employed and married were significant predictors of lower physical HRQoL. Depression, lower BMI and having an unintended pregnancy were significant predictors of lower mental HRQoL. Prenatal depression is very common in women from mainland China. Depressed women suffer from impaired physical and mental health; prenatal depression has a negative impact on women's HRQoL. We recommend that antenatal services integrate screening for depression into routine antenatal care.

Myeloid differentiation protein 1 (MD1) has been implicated in numerous pathophysiological processes, including immune regulation, obesity, insulin resistance, and inflammation. However, the role of MD1 in cardiac remodelling remains incompletely understood. We used MD1-knockout (KO) mice and their wild-type littermates to determine the functional significance of MD1 in the regulation of aortic banding (AB)-induced left ventricular (LV) structural and electrical remodelling and its underlying mechanisms. After 4 weeks of AB, MD1-KO hearts showed substantial aggravation of LV hypertrophy, fibrosis, LV dilation and dysfunction, and electrical remodelling, which resulted in overt heart failure and increased electrophysiological instability. Moreover, MD1-KO-AB cardiomyocytes showed increased diastolic sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca2+ leak, reduced Ca2+ transient amplitude and SR Ca2+ content, decreased SR Ca2+-ATPase2 expression, and increased phospholamban and Na+/Ca2+-exchanger 1 protein expression. Mechanistically, the adverse effects of MD1 deletion on LV remodelling were related to hyperactivated CaMKII signalling and increased impairment of intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis, whereas the increased electrophysiological instability was partly attributed to exaggerated prolongation of cardiac repolarisation, decreased action potential duration alternans threshold, and increased diastolic SR Ca2+ leak. Therefore, our study on MD1 could provide new therapeutic strategies for preventing/treating heart failure.

Background:This study aimed to investigate the correlation of pro-angiogenic micro-RNA (miRNA) expressions with rapid angiographic stenotic progression (RASP) and restenosis risks in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES). Methods:A total of 286 CAD patients underwent PCI with DES were consecutively recruited in this study. Plasma samples were collected before PCI operation, and 14 pro-angiogenic miRNAs were measured by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Rapid angiographic stenotic progression at nontarget lesions and restenosis at stented lesions were evaluated by quantitative coronary angiography at 12 months after PCI operation. Results:The occurrence rates of RASP and restenosis were 39.5% and 22.4%, respectively. , and miR-296 were decreased in RASP patients than non-RASP patients, among which let-7f, miR-19a, miR-126, miR-210, and miR-296 independently correlated with lower RASP occurrence by multivariate analysis, followed by receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve exhibited that these five miRNAs showed great value in predicting RASP risk with area under curve (AUC) 0.879 (95% CI: 0.841-0.917). Besides, let-7f, miR-19a, miR-92a, miR-126, miR-130a, and miR-210 were reduced in restenosis patients than non-restenosis patients, among them miR-19a, miR-126, miR-210, and miR-378 independently correlated with lower restenosis occurrence by multivariate analysis, followed by ROC curve disclosed that these four miRNAs had good value in predicting restenosis risk with AUC 0.776 (95% CI: 0.722-0.831). PurposeThis study presented the experience of improving the nucleic acid sample collection and transportation service in response to the epidemic. The main purpose is that through intelligent path planning, combined with the time scheduling of sample points, the process of obtaining results to determine the state of COVID-19 patients could be speeding up.Design/methodology/approachThe research optimized the process, including finding an optimal path to traverse all sample points in the hospital area via intelligent path planning method and standardizing the operation through the time sequence scheduling of each round of support staff to collect and send samples in the hospital area, so as to ensure the shortest time in each round. And the study examines these real-time experiments through retrospective examination.FindingsThe real-time experiments' data showed that the proposed path planning and scheduling model could provide a reliable reference for improving the efficiency of hospital logistics. Testing is a very important part of diagnosis and prompt results are essential. It shows the possibility of applying the shortest-path algorithms to optimize sample collection processes in the hospital and presents the case study that gives the expected outcomes of such a process.Originality/valueThe value of the study lies in the abstraction of a very practical and urgent problem into a TSP. Combining the ant colony algorithm with the genetic algorithm (ACAGA), the performance of path planning is improved. Under the intervention and guidance, the efficiency of hospital regional logistics planning was greatly improved, which may be of greater benefit to critical patients who must go through fever clinic during the epidemic. By detailing how to more rapidly obtain results through engineering method, the paper contributes ideas and plans for practitioners to use. The experience and lessons learned from Tongji Hospital are expected to provide guidance for supporting service measures in national public health infrastructure management and valuable reference for the development of hospitals in other countries or regions.

Background Breastfeeding has been recognized as the golden standard, but the breastfeeding rates of preterm infants remain low globally. Due to the lack of sound theoretical framework and the attention to maternal needs in breastfeeding, the overall evidence and effectiveness of intervention is limited. This study aimed to explore Chinese preterm mothers’ demands on breastfeeding using the Behaviour Change Wheel to provide insight into the future design of breastfeeding behavior-enhancing intervention. Method A qualitative descriptive design was conducted in Wuhan in 2022. Based on purposeful sampling, 14 preterm mothers were recruited from a NICU in a Grade Ⅲ Class A hospital in Wuhan, China. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data using the interview guide developed by the Theoretical Domains Framework. Theoretical Thematic Analysis was used to review the data in 6 steps to identify themes. Results Five major themes emerged: (1) capability: infants’ cues reading and abnormalities identification, coping knowledge accumulation, and skills training; (2) physical opportunity: cleanliness and peace in the home, privacy and breastfeeding aids in public places; (3) social opportunity: family co-parenting, peer support, authoritative advocacy; (4) reflective motivation: health outcome information; (5) automatic motivation: maternal-infant bonding, free of aversive stimulus. Conclusion Preterm mothers’ demands for breastfeeding were diverse including capability improvement, physical and social opportunities acquirement, as well as increase in reflective and automatic motivation. People, resources and environments associated with the demands should be engaged to enhance capability, create opportunities, and promote motivation. Future studies are needed to design effective interventions according to mothers’ specific demands.
