In the framework of the digital attention economy, lifestyle technologies stimulate and modulate intensive participation regularly. Netflix, as a creation of the digitalization McDonald,&Smith-Rowsey (2016) with the term "the Netflix effect,” introduces a pioneering role of the platform in the streaming culture of recommendation, immediate delivery, and custom-personalized production. The algorithms and the Netflix mechanisms are designed to capitalize on the viewer's activities and to maximize the time spent on the platform; they are highly effective. With this platform, a new well-known brand was born, and with those new hedonistic consumers, the “Netflix and Chill” motto legalizes and emphasizes the brand by creating a new sort of cultural taste in a society where the emotional side of consumption is becoming more and more prominent. In this context, this paper aims to observe Turkish students' hedonistic behavior in Netflix binge-watching. A reception study will be done using focus groups; four different focus groups will be monitored. Each of these groups consisted of five Netflix viewers belonging to generation Z. The study will show the degree of viewers' hedonism and on the self-perception about it.
The global society which we live in nowadays makes us rethink about media system, global dynamics, and the operation of the influences that these dynamics have on national media systems. Starting from the book by Hallin and Mancini’s (2004) Comparing Media Systems: Three Models of Media and Politics, and under the Polarized Pluralist Model they proposed, the aim of this work is to compare Turkish and Italian journalists’ professionalization. This research has been conducted under the concept of professionalization that these authors suggested in their work and, more specifically, under the Polarized Pluralist Model, in which Hallin and Mancini recognize countries like Italy have the main characteristics described by the model; Turkey can also be included. The main goal of this work is to underline not only the similarities but also the differences that are encountered in these two countries in the journalistic professionalization. The methodology used is in-depth interviews with 10 journalists: five Italian and five Turkish journalists chosen from the biggest journals in their respective countries. Main topics taken into consideration were autonomy, clientelism, and professionalization in journalism based on ethics values. Even if the Polarized Pluralist Model seems to fit in both countries from a macro perspective, with the in-depth interviews, it is clearly seen that different cross-national nuances come out.
Nowadays one of the most used words is globalization, a fleeting conception experienced in almost all the fields of the world system, so as in the daily life actions of every individual. Several scholars all over the world give different explications and perspectives about globalization, here some of them will be taken into consideration to explain the complexity that this phenomenon brings. Different is also the approaches used with globalization, sometimes positive, sometimes negative, and other times skeptical; but what is interesting to see is how all those perspectives are focus on the same topics. The main question about this process is about the entity of globalization, and if is it a new order, just a myth or a necessary process? The common aim of those authors is the understanding of this phenomenon and solving its definition by pointing out the important effects and changes brought with it. The aim of this work is to give a wide perspective of the spheres touched by globalization, which are a lot, and to focus on its economic, socio-technologic, cultural and political dimension, by analyzing the role of the nation-state, which is one of the most discussed themes inside globalization's theory and especially the changing function or not that it brings in the new era.
