O artigo faz uma análise do filme Lavoura arcaica (2001), de Luiz Fernando Carvalho, baseado no romance homônimo de Raduan Nassar, de 1975. A primeira parte apresenta uma síntese da trama e aponta como a rebeldia do personagem André seria, ao final, uma subversão àquela estrutura familiar que busca em Horkheimer um entendimento da família como local de aparelhamento ideológico para manutenção do poder dominante na sociedade burguesa. A segunda parte recorre à teoria estética de Adorno, que entende que forma e estrutura social caminham juntas na obra de arte, para mostrar que a subversão em Lavoura arcaica vai além do conteúdo, repousando também na sua forma, algo próximo da narrativa não-linear da obra escrita.
