Background Due to the absence of a vaccine of SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, the most effective way to reduce transmission of the virus is by applying social distancing practices. Exploring factors that determine whether people adopt social distancing measures is, therefore, critical to reducing the spread of the virus. This study aimed to investigate people’s intentions to socially distance based on the extended Theory of Planned Behavior. Methods A questionnaire was distributed to the sample population and collected through social media online and WhatsApp groups from March 26, 2020 to March 29, 2020. There were 823 analyzed out of 1870 responses. The extended TPB variables and risk perception were measured using a 7-point scale (scored from 1 to 7). Data were analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling method. Results Study found that the factors influencing the intention to perform social distancing were subjective norms and perceived behavior control. Risk perception affected attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Media exposure was found to determine attitudes, subjective norms, and risk perceptions. The relationship between attitudes and intentions, and media use and perceived behavior control were not significant. The better and effective risk communication that can change the level of risk perception, raise family and religious leader as well as increase to control behavior are the keys to people’s perform social distancing. Results from a multigroup analysis revealed that younger individuals showed a stronger relationship between the influence of risk perception and PBC and media use on risk perception. The predictive strength of subjective norms from risk perception and risk perception from media use was more strongly associated with rural populations. Conclusions The results of study provide an initial understanding of the level of the public’s risk perception to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Findings also revealed the role of media use in determining risk perception, attitudes and subjective norms and, in turn, change people’s intention to socially distance. This study may add to the literature of behavioral changes in pandemic and provide a framework for both policymakers and practitioners to formulate effective interventions in the future.
The Covid-19 pandemic is a global disease outbreak that quickly spreads throughout the world and transmits from one person to another so easily and is a form of danger that has the potential to threaten all aspects of people's lives. These negative impacts include social, economic, health, and psychological impacts, even to the point of threatening national defense and security, due to the limited space for human movement in carrying out daily activities. But there are also positive influences that we unconsciously admit, not only producing clean air but making individuals mentally strong and changing personalities for a better life. Adaptation of new life patterns from before makes people learn about the meaning of maintaining cleanliness in the face of a pandemic with new habits in maintaining personal hygiene, family, and the surrounding environment. The long-term impact on society is to produce people who are tough in facing life by taking advantage of existing opportunities into innovations in running life with the emergence of creative businesses as a new source of income in meeting the needs of families today and in the future.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conduct a research to analyze and to explain the influence of information technology strategy (ITS) and management support (MS) on internal business processes (IBPs), competitive advantage (CA) and financial performance (FP) and non-financial performance (NFP) of a company. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a quantitative approach and is included in an explanatory research. This study belongs to the category of perceptive research, and the unit of analysis is an individual (Singarimbun and dan Effendi, 1989). The study population is Carrefour executives/managers. The unit of analysis in this study is an individual who is a Carrefour manager and who becomes the sample. This study is conducted throughout the Carrefour chains in Indonesia. Method of data analysis uses descriptive analysis and inferential statistic, using partial least square. Findings This study found that ITS has no significant effect on FP, but it has a significant effect on NFP. It also found that MS has a significant effect on IBP CA and FP and NFP. This study found that IBPs have no significant effect on FP but have a significant effect on NFP and CA. CA has no significant effect on FP, but it has a significant effect on NFP. Further, NFP has a significant effect on FP. Originality/value This research is important to understand comprehensively the relationship between information technology and IBPs, CA and company performance. The difference between this study and previous studies is that this study examines the relationship between MS and IBP to CA, NFP and corporate FP.
Purpose Find out how the employees’ performance on the implementation of the hotel reservation information system. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the effect of the task-technology fit (TTF) on the use of information systems, as well as its effect on user performance and satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach This research type is explanatory research. In explanatory research, the aim is to provide an explanation related to the causal relationship between variables and hypothesis testing. The unit of analysis adopted in this study is the individual of the front office employees who use the star hotel reservation information system in South Kalimantan Province (the population is 239, and the taken are 150 samples, based on the number of indicators multiplied 5). Findings The higher the TTF, the higher the level of using information systems. The higher the use level of information systems, the higher the information systems user performance and vice versa in which the higher the user’s performance, the more increase the use of information systems. On the other hand, this study found that the use of information systems and user performance has no significant effect on user satisfaction. Originality/value The novelty in this study is shown in the influence between performance variables on the usage and the usage variables on the users’ performance. This study examines the importance of reciprocal usage and user performance relationships based on previous research studies that examine the relationship and that information technology (IT) usage will affect user performance. In addition, the users’ performance will affect the users’ behavior in using IT.
