RESUMOO objetivo do presente artigo foi analisar a relação das taxas de câmbio e de juros sobre a pauta de exportação dos produtos agrícolas mais significativos nos estados de Alagoas e do Rio Grande do Norte, para o período de 2003 a 2014. Os dados sinalizaram uma elevada dependência da economia regional em torno dos produtos agrícolas, corroborando um quadro preocupante no que diz respeito à uma estrutura basicamente caracterizada por produtos de baixo valor agregado e altamente vulnerável aos condicionantes externos. Além disso, observou-se que as taxas de câmbio e de juros são deveras importantes para explicar a performance das exportações dos estados enfatizados, embora apresentem diferentes efeitos quando analisados isoladamente. Entre 2003 a 2008, as exportações alagoanas passaram por uma tendência de crescimento, resultante da combinação de elevados preços das commodities, apreciação cambial e redução da taxa de juros. O Rio Grande do Norte também passou por uma trajetória semelhante, embora tenha sentido mais fortemente os efeitos da crise de 2008. Em 2009, os dois estados reduziram as exportações, que devido ao reflexo da maior taxa de juros e da depreciação cambial do período. Entre 2010 a 2014, o RN passou por um período de recuperação do volume exportado, apresentando um caráter estável, enquanto que AL mostrou que tem apresentado redução pós 2011, ano que alcançou o maior volume de exportações no período analisado.
