Este artículo tiene como objetivo el estudio del rol religioso y político que jugó la prensa para la Iglesia católica durante el siglo xix. Expone varias hipótesis. La primera es que durante el siglo xix, la prensa pasó de ser un instrumento marginal para el catolicismo colombiano, a convertirse, al final del siglo, en baluarte para la romanización de la Iglesia, la lucha político religiosa, la acción catequética y aún, el control social. Derivada de la primera, se plantea que, a pesar de estar permeada mayoritariamente por corrientes tradicionalistas, la Iglesia católica, al decidir utilizar la imprenta para el debate público, adoptó posturas modernas, incorporándose a un aspecto fundamental de la modernidad: la discusión pública entre diferentes propuestas de mundo, sociedad y política, discusión que implicó un debate externo e interno sobre la definición de la «identidad» católica, en el cual intervinieron varias posturas y corrientes.
Religión, conflicto armado colombiano y resistencia:un análisis bibliográfico*
ResumenEste balance bibliográfico presenta cómo la investigación del hecho religioso en Colombia ha estado orientada por dos posiciones epistemológicas, surgidas de la propia dinámica contextual. Una, abordada particularmente por la disciplina histórica, observa al catolicismo -religión más estudiada-preferentemente como elemento conservador del statu quo, de intransigencia y propiciador de intolerancia, violencia y guerra. Otra, más reciente y de naturaleza interdisciplinar, da luz sobre la relación de la religión con el cambio social, la búsqueda de la paz y la resistencia al conflicto armado, que a su vez responden a cambios generados en la actitud de las iglesias cristianas frente a dicho fenómeno.Así mismo, se anima al estudio interdisciplinar del hecho religioso, para propiciar un diálogo entre ciencias sociales, filosofía y teología, en consideración de los sistemas religiosos en sus contextos.
Este artículo presenta resultados parciales del proyecto de investigación “Diversidad religiosa y arquitectura en Colombia”. A partir de observación directa, entrevistas, estudio planimétrico y revisión documental, se realizó un análisis histórico, social y arquitectónico a quince lugares de culto representativos de grupos religiosos significativos en Colombia, teniendo en cuenta variables que interrelacionan el espacio sagrado con las representaciones y expresiones religiosas. En concreto, el estudio tuvo en cuenta información relacionada con cuatro variables: a) contexto, b) Forma, c) Funcionalidad y d) Significado. En esta oportunidad se exponen los significados que dirigentes religiosos, feligresía y visitantes otorgan a los espacios estudiados, en cuanto a: sacralidad, condición histórico-patrimonial, y condición estética.
Se concluye que los espacios religiosos son lugares altamente simbólicos, cuyos significados son otorgados bien por interés expreso de sus creadores, o bien por la interpretación que fieles y visitantes hacen de ellos. Dichos significados no son estáticos y evolucionan con el tiempo y según los cambios contextuales. Tales significados pueden aludir y basarse en referentes tradicionales, como pueden ser completamente nuevos, no historicistas y hasta neutrales. Por otra parte, el espacio religioso es, ante todo, un lugar que permite el encuentro con la divinidad, por supuesto, pero sobre todo, con el otro, necesidad vital para los seres humanos. Ahí está la gran valoración que propios y visitantes le otorgan.
