Die Raumchemie der Hydrate fordert die Kenntnis der Nullpunktsvolumina der Verbindungen von Schwefelsaure mit Wasser. Die Vorfrage dazu, welche Schwefelsaurehydrate existieren, war noch nicht vollig beantwortet. Allerdings liegen seit PFAUNDLER (1875) zahlreiche Beobachtungen uber das Schmelzen und Erstarren von Schwefelsaurehydraten vor, und MEYERHOFFER hat sie zu dem bekannten Schaubilde zusammengefafit, das sich in den Tabellen von LANDOLT-BORNSTEIN findet2). Indessen fehlen in dem Bilde die eutektischen Geraden, auf deren Feststellung die alteren Beobachter meist noch kein Gewicht legten, es bestehen ferner gewisse Auswahlmoglichkeiten im Konzentrationsgebiete des Schwefel~auredihydrates~), und es war, wie sich herausstellte, das Diagramm unvollstandig; denn auBer den bekannten Hydraten mit 1, 2 und 4H20 gibt es im wasserreicheren Gebiete noch zwei Hydrate, von denen man bisher noch nichts wuBte. A. Thermische Analyse Die thermische Analyse von SchwefelsaurelWasser-Gemischen bietet einige Schwierigkeiten ; die an Schwefelsaure reicheren Gemische sind bei tiefen Temperaturen sehr zah, das Ruhren und der an sich schon schlechte Warmeausgleich wird dadurch erschwert. 1) Ein ausfiihrlicherer Bericht befindet sich im Manuskriptexemplar der Dissertation von 0.
