A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo verificar se Departamento Estadual de Trânsito de Rondônia (DETRAN-RO) adotou critérios de sustentabilidade nas licitações de obras de engenharia até a destinação final dos rejeitos provenientes dessa obra. Os resíduos da construção civil são uns dos que mais agridem o meio ambiente, nas áreas urbanas, por isso a necessidade de cumprir a legislação. Esta pesquisa faz parte de um Projeto de Iniciação Científica (PIBIC), trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, qualitativa, com análise documental online, referente os editais publicados no período de 2015 a 2018. Foram analisados os editais 001/2017 para construção da pista de teste prático veicular e mini escola de trânsito do município de Ouro Preto do Oeste/RO, Edital 001/2018 para contratação de empresa especializada para a construção da pista de teste prático de direção veicular e mini escola pública de trânsito e galpão de veículos apreendidos do município de Jaru/RO, Edital 003/2018 para construção da pista de teste prático veicular e mini escola pública de trânsito do município de Ariquemes/RO. Constatou-se fragilidade e ausência das exigências nos editais das obrigações sustentáveis, à ausência da lei e resoluções. Dessa maneira, no que se refere a exigências sustentáveis previstas em Lei, cumpriu apenas um requisito das exigências, o que representa apenas 5,89% de sustentabilidade. Foi verificado também a ausência de critérios para exigir das empresas contratadas ações para reciclagem, reaproveitamento e destinação correta dos resíduos sólidos pós-obra, que tanto contaminam o solo e meio ambiente. Dessa forma, concluiu-se que a ausência destas legislações nos editais impede o órgão estadual de exigir das contratadas por ocasião da fiscalização na execução da obra, uma postura e ações de preservação do meio ambiente.
