Aus mikrokalorimetrischen Messungen zum Betriebsstoffwechsel yon Helen in Glucosepuffer wurde eine WgrmetSnung der Depotbildung yon 0,93. ~10-s cal/Zelle, ein station~rer W~rmefluB yon 0,75 9 10-9 cal/Std 9 Zelle nnd eine WgrmetSnung yon 13~: eal/g Glucose gefunden. Gleiehzeitige Extinktions-und Titerbestimmungen beweisen, dag auch ohne eine Stickstoffquelle im Puffer eine geringe Vermchrung der Zellen und ihres Volumens stattfinden kann. Aus dem Thermogramm eines einzigen Versuches kann man eine vollstgndige Kinetik des Betriebsstoffwechsels gewirmen, die einen zweiphasigen Verlauf zeigt. Vergleichende Messungen mit atmungsgehemmten Zellen machen klar, dal] ein Tell der entwickelten Wgrme aus dem Atmungsstoffwechsel stammt.
The inactivation of homozygous yeast strains of different ploidy by thiopyronine in presence and in absence of visible light and the effeciency of this dye upon nucleic acids and nucleic acid components was investigated. Some experiments of the mutation activity of thiopyronine on Sac charomyces are described. The inactivation of yeast in presence of visible light is not dependent on ploidy; in absence of visible light there is a remarkable increase of inactivation with increasing of ploidy.
The deamination of 3 bases of nucleic acids by NaNO, was investigated. The following systems were studied:1. adenine, guanine and cytosine separately dissolved in water, 2. adenine and guanine as constituents of RNA and DNA in yeast cells, 3. adenine and guanine as constituents of isolated yeast DNA.The influence of such parameters as concentration of NaN02 , pn-value, time and temperature of the reaction was studied. One aim of this investigation is to compare these results with the inactivation of the colony-forming ability of yeast cells by NaNO, as described in a following paper.
