Die ~lteren Arbeiten fiber die Schilddrfisenhistologie befal~ten sich im wesentliehen damit, zu untersuehen, welche morphologischen Bilder bestimmten Entwicklungsstufen des Organismus oder gewissen wohl umsehriebenen, klinischen Sehilddriisenerkrankungen zugeordnet werden konnten. Begriffe, wie Adolescentenstruma ffir die Schflddriisenschgellung de r Jugen~ichen, Strums co!loides macro-: und microfollieularis (~Kau/mann, Gierke und Wegelin) fiir den blanden Kropf und ,,Strums parenchymatosa", ,,Basedowsekflddrfise" ffir des histologische Bild bei der Basedowsehen Krankkeit entstanden. Die neueren klinisehen und physiologisehen Untersuehungen, mehr yon funktione]len Gedankengs geleitet, haben dig Verdnderungen des Schflddriisenbildes unter den verschiedensten Bedingungen zum Gegenstand. Denn zahlreiche Beobaehtungen und experimente]le Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, da~ die S/~ugetier-und Mensehenschflddrfise in ihrer Leistung und in ihrem histologischen Bau ~uf verschiedene Reize sehr empfindlieh und schnell antworten kann. Derartige Reize kSnnen ihre Quelle haben in einer Umstimmung des Organismus selber oder in Einfltissen der Au~enwelt. Fiir Rasse, Alter, Geschlecht und Jahreszeiten hat Spoettel an mehreren hundert Schafen deutliche Unterschiede im Schflddriisenbild festgelegt. L. Adler hat nachgewiesen, dal3 im Winterschlaf die Schilddrfise der Igel und Fledermi~use sick hochgradig rfickbfldet und im Sommer wieder einen normalen Bau zeigt.
