We examined the mediating role of social support in the relationship between shyness and loneliness among 618 Chinese adolescents, by administering the Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3). The
results showed that a higher level of shyness was associated with a lower level of social support and a higher level of loneliness, and loneliness was negatively correlated with social support. The mediation analysis result indicated that social support partially mediated the relationship
between shyness and loneliness. Thus, reducing shy feelings and enhancing social support may be preventive measures to help relieve adolescents' feelings of loneliness.
We designed a short-term training course in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for use with busy people with little time. We examined whether or not MBCT training would affect people's cognition. We assigned 44 participants with no prior experience with mindfulness techniques
randomly to either an MBCT group or a control group. These participants then completed the Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ). After having undergone 7 days of training, we assessed participants again with the TCSQ and they also completed the Attention Network Test. Results showed that
orienting and executive control differed between the MBCT and control groups, but there was no difference between the 2 groups in alerting. The score for positive coping style was significantly enhanced in the group who had undergone MBCT training. Our findings suggest that MBCT can be an
effective approach to improve individuals' attentional subsystem and coping style in a short time.
How number is presented? Is it represented difference for different species? We first review behavioural and neuropsychological studies for the representation of different level of mathematical ability for animals, infants, lesion cases and images studies to demonstrate the relationship of mathematics and language. It can be included that 1) both humans and animals share an elemental number quantification system, which is without supporting by language ability; 2) the language ability is crucial to get higher mathematical ability. We then summarize the main research status for each line of studies. Finally, we outline recommendations for future research directions.
We investigated whether or not social anxiety mediates the relationship between attachment and loneliness with a group of Chinese adolescents with normal hearing (n = 152) and a second group who were deaf (n = 120), and, if so, if this mediation effect is moderated by
life experience. In this study, Chinese adolescents completed anonymous surveys regarding attachment, social anxiety, and loneliness. The results showed that the relationship between father attachment and loneliness was not mediated by social anxiety for either deaf or hearing adolescents.
In contrast, for both mother and peer attachment, the relationship was partially mediated by social anxiety for hearing adolescents only. We discuss the implications of the findings and potential interventions that can be applied to increase subjective well-being in deaf and hearing Chinese
adolescents.
