LAR allows more optimal anatomical reconstruction for patients with the high/intermediate types of imperforate anus. However, additional factors that are not correctable by surgery, such as intrinsic innervation deficiency, also influence the clinical outcome.
We describe a case of a female with simple virilizing congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) reared as a male diagnosed at the late age of 64. Computed Tomography (CT) demonstrated a large adrenal mass, bilateral diffuse adrenal enlargement, female pelvic organs as well as a clearly visualized prostate gland. This is to the best of our knowledge the first case of such a sizable prostate gland in a female CAH patient documented on CT. We review the literature regarding aspects where radiologists may encounter CAH and the finding of presence of a prostate gland in female CAH patients.
Long-gap (n = 1) and short-gap (n = 5) esophageal atresia, long-segment stenosis (n = 2), patent poststenting trachea (n = 1), normal trachea without fistula (n = 1), and tracheal bronchus (n = 1) were studied. Fistulas between the lower esophagus and carina were noted in all six cases of esophageal atresia. All CT findings correlated with operative or bronchoscopy findings. Sensitivity and specificity were 100%. Three-dimensional CT and virtual bronchoscopy are accurate and useful techniques in the preoperative assessment of esophageal atresia and tracheal stenosis in neonates, infants, and children.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
