Este artículo problematiza la relación entre la Historia de la literatura hispanoamericana (1961) y El grimorio (1961) de Enrique Anderson Imbert. Sugiere que el cuento homónimo de la colección revela en la Historia aspectos menos conciliatorios sobre la legitimidad de su monolingüismo y su objetividad hermenéutica. Coincidiendo con George Steiner y Umberto Eco, en “El grimorio” Anderson Imbert explora la historiografía como un proceso lingüístico en el que su hispanismo culmina por saturar de discrepancias a ambas obras. Anderson Imbert subvierte así el lugar que ocupa junto a Jorge Luis Borges en el canon literario que él mismo construyó.
