Practical Synthesis of the Rebeccamycin Aglycone and Related Analogues by Oxidative Cyclization of Bisindolylmaleimides with a Wacker-Type Catalytic System.-Oxidation of bisindolylmaleimides (V) with atmospheric oxygen in the presence of a Pd(II)/Cu(II) Wacker-type system gives good yields of the rebeccamycin aglycone (VIa) and related compounds (VIb,c).
