Vanillic
acid and syringic acid were converted to terephthalic
acid via a two-step process using a fixed-bed reactor. The cascade
route includes hydrogenation demethoxylation and carboxylation reactions.
Activated carbon (AC)-supported MoWBO
x
and PdNiO
x
were determined to be suitable
catalyst precursors for the process. An intermediate of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) was produced from the demethoxylation
in 71.6% selectivity, and the terephthalic acid was obtained in 58.7%
yield with 66.4% HBA conversion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
