Horace Mann Bond was a black scholar who published several articles and essays on mental testing during his lengthy academic career. This essay looks at Bond's early, and later, published work on testing, much of which was bitterly critical of the racism he saw in the views of white advocates of IQ and other mental tests. The essay also considers Bond's less critical views of and his use of intelligence tests as a college administrator. Though Bond was critical of IQ tests, he thought that they could be used profitably for diagnostic purposes.
