Nos séculos XVII e XVIII, o sertão do norte da capitania de Goiás, atual Estado do Tocantins, foi devassado por sertanistas, missionários e criadores de gado vindos da atual região Nordeste, especialmente do sul de Pernambuco, Bahia e Piauí e, por fim, pelas levas de aventureiros em busca de descobrirem minas auríferas. As minas de Natividade foram encontradas e exploradas a partir de 1734, pela expedição do bandeirante Antônio Ferraz de Araújo. Natividade, teve no período colonial 5 templos religiosos, ligados às irmandades: Nossa Senhora da Natividade, Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos, Nossa Senhora do Terço, São Benedito e a capela rural de Nosso Senhor do Bomfim. A presente pesquisa busca descortinar a presença das irmandades de santos pretos no julgado de Natividade, tais como Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos e São Benedito, e as estratégias utilizadas pelos escravos e forros dentro destas confrarias. Através da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental em inventários e testamentos do recorte entre 1797-1850, percebeu-se a importância destes espaços na construção da identidade dos povos africanos e seus descendentes nas minas brasileiras do antigo norte de Goiás.

Resumo
O ofício da ourivesaria e a arte dos mestres filigraneiros, aponta Iphan (2007) não pode ser visto desatrelada de outras manifestações religiosas nativitanas, como a celebração do Divino Espírito Santo, a festa da padroeira Nossa Senhora da Natividade e a festa do Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, bem como a confecção de bolos e biscoitos de D. Naninha – está tudo entrelaçado: as festas, as práticas, personagens e saberes que identificam a cultura imaterial de Natividade. Desse modo, o presente artigo busca demostrar a relação das joias artesanais que marcam o espaço e lugar nativitano e as festas religiosas seculares e presentes no dia a dia e no imaginário local.
