The reaction between potassium ferrocyanide and molecular iodine in an aqueous solution has an initial rate which is first order with respect to the concentrations of both reagents. At pH values of 7.1 and 9.2 the rate constant for this reaction was (1.3 ± 0.3) X 101 23 liter mole-1 sec.-1. The equilibrium constant for the reaction 2FeoCy + Is-= 2FeiCy + 3Icalculated from values of rate constants does not agree with the equilibrium constant determined potentiometrically.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
