No Brasil, há uma maior incidência de neoplasias da glândula tireoide em mulheres do que em homens, principalmente de meia idade. Desse modo, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a mortalidade por câncer de tireoide, o investimento público destinado à hospitalização das pessoas com essa patologia, e os anos de vida perdidos por elas durante o período de 2010 a 2019. Por meio de um estudo descritivo, com abordagem quantitativa, os dados secundários foram coletados em outubro de 2021, disponibilizados pelo Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS), consultando-se às bases de dados do Sistema de Informações Hospitalares (SIH) e Instituto Nacional do Câncer (INCA). Em relação à taxa de mortalidade, o aumento da incidência em mulheres e homens ocorreu após os 40 anos de idade, sendo a faixa etária de 70 a 79 anos a que teve maior número de óbitos. A faixa-etária de 50-59 anos apresentou maior taxa de APVP (anos potenciais de vida perdidos), baseando-se numa longevidade de 80 anos. As regiões Norte, Nordeste e Sul foram as que demandaram maior incentivo financeiro no controle dos transtornos tireoidianos. Assim, verifica-se a necessidade de um maior incentivo à realização de exames precoce, principalmente nas Regiões Norte, Nordeste e Sul, que quantitativamente requerem uma maior aplicação de recursos financeiros. Além disso, a alta taxa de incidência de neoplasias da glândula tireoide em mulheres e pessoas acima de 50 anos, no Brasil, reflete a necessidade de avanço nas práticas de atenção à saúde.
O consumo de cigarro ou sistemas eletrônicos contendo nicotina e outras substâncias é denominado tabagismo. Este é o principal fator de risco para adquirir doenças crônicas, responsáveis por seis milhões de óbitos ao ano, sendo considerada uma doença neurocomportamental. O estudo tem como objetivo traçar o perfil epidemiológico do uso de cigarros e dispositivos eletrônicos de liberação de nicotina em estudantes de medicina do 1º e 12º período das Faculdades Nova Esperança (FAMENE) e Ciências Médicas da Paraíba (FCM/PB). Além de relacionar o tabagismo com a idade, o sexo e raça dos participantes; identificar o grau de dependência a nicotina dos participantes e verificar o cenário da ansiedade entre os participantes. Para o estudo realizou-se pesquisa de campo, de natureza observacional, do tipo transversal, com abordagem quantitativa, descritiva, aplicada por estudantes do curso de graduação em Medicina da Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Paraíba. Verificou-se que o perfil epidemiológico dos tabagistas entrevistados é caracterizado pelo predomínio de homens, de 20 a 25 anos, brancos, com baixo grau de dependência à nicotina e ansiedade, tendo um maior índice de alunos iniciantes adeptos ao tabagismo, quando comparados com os egressos.
