Es sei noch hinzugefiigt, daB amorphe Kohle ein 300 ma1 so kleines Leitvermogen wie Graphit hat*).Dieser wurde im Verbrennungsrohr in reinem feuchten Sauerstoffstrom rnit Hilfe cines Thermoelements bestimmt und stimmte fur Kalkstickstoff-und Acheaongrapbit ziemlich iiberein. Er lag bei den reinsten Produkten zwischen 600 und 640°, wahrend man in der Literatur') 690" findet. Der tiefere Wert mag auf die besonders feine Verteilung beider Arten zuriickzufuhren sein. Bei allen drei Graphitsauren konnte im konvergent polarisierten Lichte negative Doppelbrechung festgestellt werden.5. Das Gas wurde aufgefangen und untersucht. Es war reiner WasserstofflO). Ceylongraphit bewirkte selbst bei 750" noch keine Gasentwicklung.6. Von England kommende Nachrichten, dai3 es angeblich den Herren W. E. G y e und Y. E. B a r n a d gelungen ist, di?n Erreger des Krebses zu entdecken, geben Anlai3 zu folgender Mitteilung: Im Verfolg einer groi3eren chemotherapeutischen Arbeit, die unter der Leitung von A. B i n z seit mehreren Jahren durchgefuhi-t wird, befaijte ich mich auf Veranlassung des Genannten auch mit der chemotherapeutischen Bekanipfung des Krebses. Ein systematisches Vorgehen auf diesem Gebiete erschien aber nur dann aussichtsreich, wenn man nahere Aufklarung iiber die Ursache des Krebses gewinnen konnte. Im Verlaufe dahingehender Untersuchungen wurde nun in1 Anschlufi an die Durchpriifung einer von B i n z und R a t h erfundenen Arsinsaure folgende hochst merkwiirdige Beobachtung gernacht : Unterwirft man exstirpierte Carcinome des Menschen und auch solche von Tieren einem bestimmten chemischen Prozesse, iiber dessen Natur aus weiter unten angefiihrten Griinden noch nichts Naheres mitgeteilt werden I a n n , so gelingt es, aus dem ,,Umsetzungsprodukt" in iiblicher Weise, d. h. durch Ziichtung auf Agar, Mikroorganismen zu erhalten, die unbedingt ihren Ursprung in dem betreffenden Tumor gehabt haben miissen. Es wurden auf diese Weise verarbeitet: Brustkrebs, Leberkrebs, Hautcarcinom, Uteruscarcinom und Kieferncarcinom. Es eriibrigf sich wohl, noch besonders darauf hinzu weisen, dafi das Eindringen irgendwelcher Mikroorganismen von anderer Seite wahrend des Prozesses durch Beobachtung veitestgehender Sterilitat ausgeschlossen w-urde. Die Mikroorganismen sind schon bei der Ziichtung auf Agar, resp. Bouillon morphologischen Umwandlungen unterworfen. Mehrere Tage alte Reinkulturen zeigen bei Betrachtung niit der Immersion Zeiss Nr. X, Okular 15, kurze, tin der Mitte verdickte, sporenbildende Stabchen. Bei ihrem U'achstum entstehen Substan.r.en mit den1 Geruche der niederen Fettsauren. Bei der ifberimpfung des Bazillus auf Tiere erhalt man vielfache starke Geschwulstbildungen von carcinomatosem Charakter. . ! us den gleichen Tumoren, aus denen es gelingt, durch den vorhin angedeuteten chemischen Prozei3 diese Mikroorganisrnen herauszuarbeiten, gelang es nicht, dieselben v o r der chemischen Behandlung zu gewinnen, SO dafi angenommen werden mufi, daB durch diesen Prozt?i3 irgendwelche Umhiillungen, die ein selbstandiges Wachstum des Mikroorganismus aufierhalb des Tierkorpers verhindern, entfernt worden sind. Eine Entscheidung dariiber, ob das Vorkommendieses Bazillus in den l'umoren zu den1 Schlusse berechtigt, in ihm den Erreger des Krebses 7u sehen, oder ob dieses Vorkommen lediglich eine notwendige Begleiterschei'nung darstellt, kann bei der aufierordentlichen Schwierigkeit der Materie nicht endgiiltig gefgllt werden, obgleich die erstere Ansicht vorerst wahrscheinlicher ist, hesoriders unter der Beriicksichtigung der Tatsache, daD es in einzeknen Fallen gelungen ist. bei der ifbertragung des Parasiten auf Tiere Wucherungen von tumorartigem Charakter zu ereeugen'.A n w a r .
