SummaryIn the course of a study of the evolution of a genus of African flycatchers, Batis, numerical techniques were employed to analyee the characters of the populations of the forest-dwelling Both and to throw some light on their relationships. The techniques reported upon in this paper are non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) and the Unweighted Pair-group Method using Arithmetic Averages (WGMA). The results obtained from them numeric analyses closely parallel those using non-quantitative methods.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
