IRWIN, M. P. S. 1985. Interrelationships among African species of Centropus (Cuculidae). Ostrich 56:132-134.The interrelationships of the African species of Centropus are reassessed. Previous authors appear to have been strongly influenced by the amount of spatial replacement that occurs between similar looking species and which does not necessarily reflect close relationship. The present arran ement relies on clear-cut morphological differences, particular1 rump-feather patterns, considered phyfetically significant. The poup is believed to have orignated in zsia and to be of forest origin, with a subsequent radiation in Afnca in savanna. A diagram setting out these relationships is presented, commencing with the most primitive species and ending with the most derived.
