Las aguas residuales derivadas de la producción de furfural pueden causar efectos tóxicos en los sistemas vivos si se liberan al medio ambiente sin un tratamiento adecuado. En el presente trabajo se estudió la remoción de diferentes concentraciones de furfural por actinobacterias en sistemas líquidos. Los resultados mostraron que el cultivo para el cual la relación entre la concentración de furfural residual y el crecimiento bacteriano fue mínima, corresponde al consorcio formado por las actinobacterias L9, A12 y M7. Para evaluar la efectividad del proceso de biorremediación se realizaron pruebas de ecotoxicidad. Se obtuvieron incrementos significativos en los bioindicadores (p < 0,05) cuando el tratamiento se realizó en consorcio. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren que el consorcio de actinobacterias seleccionado representa una herramienta de biorremediación prometedora para el tratamiento de efluentes que contienen furfural.
En este trabajo se preparó zirconia modificada con sulfato de cerio al 5%, se evaluaron sus propiedades texturales y de acidez, y se han comparado bajo las mismas condiciones como catalizadores de las reacciones de esterificación y transesterificación de aceite de semilla de algodón con etanol y metanol. Las reacciones se llevaron a cabo en reactor bach bajo diferentes condiciones de tempe-ratura de reacción, relación molar aceite:alcohol, cantidad de catalizador y tiempo de reacción, la presión fue autogenerada de 30bar. Los productos de reacción fueron cuan-tificados por HPLC y posteriormente con análisis termogravimétrico (TGA) y espectroscopía infrarroja con transformada de Fourier (IRTF). Se halló que el análisis TGA es muy útil para seguimiento de reacciones de obtención de etil y metil ésteres, hallándose diferencias importantes hasta concentración del 96%, mientras que el IRTF es mucho menos sensible
