Oswald de Andrade, além de idealizador da Revista de Antropofagia, figura entre uma das principais referências do Modernismo brasileiro, e, principalmente, como norteador de novos olhares para a arte e para a cultura no Brasil, a partir dos manifestos Antropófago (1928) e da Poesia Pau-Brasil (1924). Entretanto, parte da sua produção que revela o caráter antropofágico de sua escritura, por meio da estetização da linguagem teatral, tem aparecido com pouca frequência nos cursos de Letras e nas pesquisas em Literatura no Brasil, a exemplo de suas peças de teatro. Portanto, objetivando dar visibilidade ao caráter crítico e criativo deste autor, pretende-se, a partir do presente artigo, realizar uma leitura da obra O homem e o cavalo (1934), sendo este, pois, um dos textos que se destaca na produção alegórica oswaldiana. Para isso, tal leitura será baseada nos conceitos de "carnavalização" e de "sátira menipeia" - elaborados por Bakhtin. O estudo tem como objetivo observar, em que medida, tais conceitos refletem o pensamento crítico oswaldiano e se colocam como potenciais meios para se pensar sobre os recursos da desconstrução e da alegoria na produção literária e dramatúrgica, no contexto latino-americano.
