<p>As frequentes alterações dos habitats naturais promovidas pelo ser humano aumentam sua proximidade com a fauna silvestre, favorecendo, entre outras coisas, interações entre humanos e primatas não humanos. A etnoprimatologia estuda essas interações, levando em consideração que elas ocorrem há bastante tempo. É importante compreender as percepções e atitudes dos moradores do bairro Vila Nobre, na cidade de Paulo Afonso, Estado da Bahia, em relação aos macacos-prego-galego (<em>Sapajus</em> sp.) para esclarecer os fatores socioambientais dessa relação. Assim, o presente estudo objetiva caracterizar as percepções e atitudes dos moradores em relação a recente ocorrência dos macacos-prego-galego, visando à identificação de conflitos e suas possíveis causas. O estudo foi realizado através de entrevistas semiestruturada e conversas informais com os moradores do local, entre maio de 2012 e julho de 2015. Os entrevistados foram pessoas residentes no bairro desde sua infância. Todos os entrevistados afirmam que estes macacos não ocorriam no bairro, mas começaram a ser avistados a partir do ano de 2011. A maioria dos entrevistados (95,4%) associa o aparecimento dos macacos às plantações de frutíferas. Os macacos invadem os pomares, alimentando-se de todos os itens cultivados, e quando não satisfeitos, passam a invadir as residências em busca de comida, fato este que tem levado uma pequena parcela dos moradores (14,2%) a adotar medidas agressivas para com os macacos. Todos os moradores entrevistados consideram os macacos-prego-galego importantes para a natureza. As interações entre a população humana e a população de macacos-prego-galego são pacificas, os sentimentos positivos se sobressaem aos negativos. Portanto, o cenário é favorável à adoção de educação ambiental que vise à proteção do macaco-prego-galego e de seu habitat, bem como a proteção dos moradores e suas residências, proporcionando melhorias na relação de convivência entre humanos e primatas.</p>
