IntroduçãoO agronegócio da aquicultura é uma importante atividade econômica que além de gerar renda, produz alimento rico em proteína. Segundo Sidonio et al. (2012), a demanda mundial por esses pescados vem crescendo de forma acelerada, em virtude do aumento da população e da busca por alimentos mais saudáveis. Entretanto, como qualquer outra atividade antrópica, também, gera impactos ambientais negativos ao meio ambiente, em razão do uso de recursos naturais; dos seus processos e da geração de resíduos (BARBIERI et al, 2014).Guimarães (2008) relata que a utilização de plantas para o tratamento do efluente da aquicultura é uma alternativa interessante para sustentabilidade dessa atividade, e segundo Martelo e Borrero (2012), muitas macrófitas aquáticas flutuantes podem ser utilizadas no tratamento de efluentes devido à sua capacidade de absorver e armazenar grandes quantidades de nutrientes, além de possuírem uma taxa de crescimento rápido. Segundo Henry e Camargo (2008), o tratamento por meio de macrófitas aquáticas pode ser viável e ainda minimizarem os impactos sobre os ecossistemas aquáticos. Nesse contexto, esse trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a eficiência das macrófitas aquáticas no tratamento de efluentes provenientes da aquicultura.
