Introduction: Dental avulsion is one of the dental traumatic injuries commonly affecting children aged between 6 and 12 years. One of the major limitations in obtaining a successful outcome while treating dental avulsions is the lack of knowledge on its first aid management among parents. The present study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude of parents in Imphal toward the emergency management of avulsed permanent tooth using a self-reported questionnaire method. Materials and Methods: The present cross-sectional study was undertaken among 777 parents of 6–12-year-old children who were recruited through 2 private schools in Imphal. A questionnaire consisting of 14 closed-ended questions used to assess the parental knowledge and attitude on emergency management of avulsed permanent teeth was distributed to the respondents after obtaining official consent from the respective schools and informed consent from the respondents. Statistical Analysis: Chi-square test was used to assess the association between the results and the educational status, gender, and geographical location of the respondents. Results: The study revealed that only a fraction of the respondents, i.e., 11.8% gave a positive response on attempting “self-replantation” and higher fractions (76.1%) of the respondents reported to have received no previous information on the emergency management of dental avulsion. Conclusion: About 96.1% of the respondents showed interest on acquiring knowledge on the emergency management of dental avulsion. This warrants the urgent need on educating the parents on the first aid emergency management of avulsed tooth.

Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma is a rare tumor affecting the pediatric population and young adults. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005 defined it as “A neoplasm composed of proliferating odontogenic epithelium in a cellular ectomesenchymal tissue with varying degrees of inductive changes and dental hard tissue formation.” There exists a controversy on its histogenesis designating it as a hamartoma (developing complex odontoma [CO]) or a true neoplasm since both the lesions appear similar histologically. Recently, the WHO in 2017 has clubbed both these lesions as the same entity. Most cases are reported in males and in mandible, while cases in maxilla are scarce. This article describes a recurrence of a previously reported case of ameloblastic fibroma which showed maturation into AFO or CO in a girl aged 6 years in the posterior maxilla. This case is reported due to its rarity and a brief review with differential diagnosis is also discussed.

A well built 43 yrs old male of medium height with no history of past medical illness and with a negative HIV status presented with pain on the left cheek with a couple of painful white lesions in the mouth associated with malaise. Considering it to be an apthous ulcer treated with analgesic, antiseptic mouth wash, a topical anaesthetic gel, and a multivitamin. Three days later condition worsened with cutaneous vesicles and postulation. The case was shown to a dermatologist and a diagnosis of herpes zoster was made based on the clinical manifestations. Then treated with Tab Microvir (Famciclovir), analgesic, vitamin, and a chorhexidine mouth wash. The signs and symptoms completely disappeared by the twelfth day of the initiation of the treatment. Presence of oral lesions without dermal lesions, in an unsuspecting individual, during the early stage of HZ can mislead the diagnosis and management of the condition. Early diagnosis and prompt management with an antiviral agent and a corticosteroid, can markedly decrease the morbidity of the disease, and also avoid complications like post herpetic neuralgia.
