Zum ersten Male u nd fast zu gleieher Zeit beschliftigten sich F. ttoppc und C1. Bernard mit der genauen Untersuchung der Beziehung des Kohlenox?dgases (CO) zum Blute der Thiere. Die Itauptfacta, die wit tiber diesen Gegenstand hesitzea, gehSreu dem Pariser Professor. Er zeigte die charakteristische hellrothe F~irbung des Blutes, welches Kohlenoxydgas absorbirt. Weiter ergab es Sich nach seineu Untersuchungen~ dass das Oxyd, indem cs yore Blute absorhirt wird, aus demselben dee Sauerstoff und etwas Kohlens~iure verdr~iogt o). Des mit Kohlenoxydgas ges~ttigte Blut absorbirt 5 Mal weniger Sauerstoff, als gewiJhnliches. Die F~ihigkcit des Blutes zu gerinnen wird nicht alterirt. Des Serum liJst sogar weniger Pigment auf und erscheint daher heller tiber dem Gerinnset, als in gewiJhnlichem Biute. Die BlutkSrperchert werdeu sehr dauerhaft, So dass sic wochenlang (ausserhalb des Organismus)weder ihre Farbe noch Form ver~inderD. Dieselbe Dauerhaftigkeit der Blutk(irperchen wurde auch in Hoppe's Versuchen hemerkt. Er fand nfimtich, indem er defibrinirtes Ochsenblut mit reinem Kohlenoxydgase s~ittigte, dass dieses Blut (gleichviel ob veniises oder artericlles) die eharakteristische Farbeniinderung eingeht~*).
