'DIHE educated portion of all civilized nations is 'becomiing more anid mnore alive to tlle enormlous influence wlhich syphilis will lhave on the future well-being of the nation aind to tlle increase in the dissenination of this previously world-wide The apparatus required is to be found in tlle most modest surgery, for it consists of a hypodermic syringo and two or thiree smnall basins, although, wlhere a large0 number of injections lhave to be given, several other articles may be used to increase speed and efficiency. We lhave found tlhat, by tlle metlhod about to be described, two officers and tvo orderlies can give from fifty to seventy intravenous-injections of arsenic and the samne numiiber of intramiuscular injections of mercury in less than an hour. After trial of a number of hypodermic syringes, the one we lhave found most useful is a clheap two-piece glass syringe made by MIaw of Lonidon. The points of special advantage are. a comparatively long barrel, of moderate diamzeter, so thiat, altlhouglh graduated to 2 c.cmi., it will really lhold niearly 4 c.cm., while its narrow diamueter enables the nleedlle to be introduced at an acuite angle witlh the skin. The plunuer fits accurately anld may be entirely witlhdrawn. Tl'liere are no metal contraptions at either top or bottom. The tapering connexioni lhas no shoulder, and fits well, so that tllere is no leaking, anid the needle, when in place, is firm, but can be easily removed. Th1'JO needle is ratlher larger than the -ordiniary hypodermicneedle and lhas a slhorter point, so thlat, wlhile a vein is easily pickedl up, there is less danger of a tllroualg-aindtllrouglh penetration.
