While estimating ovulation time in ewes, typical symptom of approaching follicle rupture were found and described. The observations described below were performed on 20 ewes of
Contents:The objective qf our research was to describe follicle changes during the last hours and minutes before ovulation, and to characterize the process of evacuation of follicularfluid. Sixty five ewes, from 1.5 to 4 years old and weighing 4060 kg were used.Research was conducted during second half of 1992. Laparoscopic observations were performed during the last I0 hours bcfore ovulation. Thirty three cases of ovulation were video recorded. Follicle size during the 10 hours before ovulation remained unchanged (average diameter was 6.5 mm). Colour, vascularization and convexity were undergoing significant changes during the last two hours before rupture. Follicle fluid was discharged under high pressure in a single jet, or slowly oozed out, thus representing two different types of ovulation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
