Records of muscular tension were secured from 25 subjects during 100 mirror tracing trials distributed over a period of 7 days. Tension was found to be low initially and to increase and to be maintained at a high level with progress in learning. Places of increased difficulty in the pattern were correlated with increased tension. Initial tension is specified as diffuse, while tension associated with progress in learning signified improved localization of tension in the muscle that is specific to the task.
