SUMMARY:Two TiCl3-species, one containing AlC13 (TiCl3-(Al)) and one without A1 (TiClz-(Ti)), are compared ; TiC13-(Al) exhibits a much higher polymerization activity for propylene. Pretreatment of both titanium trichlorides with Al(C2H5)2Cl under polymerization conditions yields a higher content of ethyl groups for TiC13-(Al). Fractionation of TiC13-(Al) and TiCls-(Ti) with respect to particle size leads to analogous dependence of polymerization activity and of viscosity numbers of polypropylenes on crystal size of titanium trichloride. The molecular weight distributions of the polypropylenes made with both TiCl3-species are similar; hence it is assumed that the catalysts differ in the number, not in the type of active sites.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
