RESUMO -Objetivando o desenvolvimento de métodos alternativos para o tratamento de efluentes aquosos contendo contaminantes orgânicos foram produzidos compósitos à base de óxidos de ferro e óxido de titânio (TiO 2 ). Para tanto, utilizou-se o método de coprecipitação da magnetita incorporando no meio reacional o TiO 2 . Foram produzidos seis materiais variando-se as quantidades de TiO 2 em relação ao teor total de ferro de 0 a 20 % (m/m). As atividades fotocatalíticas desses materiais foram avaliadas utilizando soluções aquosas do corante catiônico rodamina B. Nesse experimento utilizou-se uma lâmpada UltraVitalux E271ES/300W (OSRAM), que permite a simulação da radiação solar. O compósito obtido a partir da incorporação de 15 % do TiO 2 apresentou o melhor desempenho, degradando 92 % do corante rodamina B após 60 min de reação. Na mesma condição reacional o uso do TiO 2 (150 mg/L) reduziu 70 % da concentração do corante. Além disso, experimentos de reuso demostraram que esse compósito possui boa atividade até o quinto ciclo de reação. Os resultados obtidos no presente trabalho permitem concluir que o preparo de compósitos é uma alternativa na busca de materiais potencialmente úteis para a degradação de contaminantes orgânicos. Ademais, vale destacar as vantagens do uso desses materiais tais como o baixo custo e a possibilidade de separação por atração magnética. INTRODUÇÃOA contaminação dos recursos hídricos associados com os seus impactos negativos tem incentivado a busca por novas tecnologias que permitam minimizar tais impactos. Os efluentes industriais são exemplos desta problemática, tendo em vista o grande volume de água contaminada que é dispensada nos corpos d'água sem um tratamento prévio (Liberatti et al., 2014). Neste contexto, destacam-se as indústrias do segmento têxtil por utilizar grandes volumes de água, principalmente na etapa de tingimento, em que este recurso mineral é utilizado nos processos de tingimento e fixação de corantes (Araújo et al., 2014). Assim os efluentes produzidos por esse segmento podem causar sérios problemas de contaminação ambiental pelo descarte de água contendo corantes orgânicos. Também vale mencionar que atualmente existe uma pressão por parte da sociedade para a busca de alternativas que permitam a descoloração dos efluentes aquosos, especialmente aqueles contaminados por corantes têxteis, uma vez que o descarte inadequado altera significativamente a estética e a qualidade do ambiente atingido por esses contaminantes (Silva et al. 2012).
