In this study, the mechanism of heavy rainfall in PhuQuoc from 1/8-5/8/2019 is analysed based on the observation rainfall, satellite rainfall and FNL data. The results show that heavy rainfall in PhuQuoc is associated with the enhancement of westerly monsoon which can be defined by VSMI. This westerly enhancement is closely related to the activation of intraseasonal oscillation with the cycle of about 30 days over Indian Ocean and North Western Pacific. The results also show that the deeping of monsoon trough over the two regions lead to the strong moisture convergence over PhuQuoc and induce heavy rainfall in this island.
