Investigations on biological control of Heterobasidion annosum in Norway spruce with antagonistic fungi. II. Interaction experiments in wood. Seventeen ftingal species were examined for antagonism against IT. annosum in wood. After inoculation of stem sections and stumps by conidia and dowels, the distribution patterns of the niyeelia within the wood were recorded. In spruce-wood ant.agonism was shown only by ITypholoma capnoides, Bjerkandera adusta, Resinicium bicolor and Trichoderma spp. near the site of inoeulation. As the distance from this site inereased H. annosum became more dominant. Inoculations by dowels yielded more infections than inoculations by spores. The patterns of mycelial distribution within the wood were similar in stem sections and in stumps. Spruce stumps were eolonized naturally mainly by Resinicium bicolor, Armillaria mellea s. 1. and Nectria fuckcliana. In stem sections of Pinus sylvestris, however, Phlebiopsis gigantea displaced H. annosum effectively.
abics Investigations on biologicil control of Heterobasidion .-innosuni in Norway spruce (Picea abic H. Karst.) with antagonistic fungi. \. Produetion of inoculum and interaction experiments i vitro. Thirty istilates tif 22 fungal .species were examined in vitro forsporulatitin, ftir i;ennina'-~-•-'^•'-spores, and for antagoni.sm of myeelia against three strains of H. annosum. Viable spores wert by 17 isolates, antagtinism wa.s shown by 28 iscilates.
Observations on the occurrence of Armillaria obscura and Armillaria cepistipes on Silver fir in Southern Bavaria. Armillaira-fruitbodies on Silver fir (Abies alba) from different localities in Southern Bavaria were identified by mating tests as A. obscura and A. cepistipes. Diploid mycelia could not be determined by the Buller-phenomenon or fructification in vitro, somatic segregation of haploids by Benomyl also was not successful.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
