Die durch Bestrahlung mit Elektronen von 40 bis 80 kV hervorgerufenen Änderungen der Gitterstruktur von Polyäthylen(PÄ)‐ und Polyoxymethylen(POM)‐Einkristallen wurden unterrsucht. Dazu wurden Lage, Intensität und Linienbreite der Reflexe im Elektronenbeugungsdiagramm in Abhängigkeit von der Bestrahlungsdosis gemessen. Vergleichende Untersuchungen wurden an einem Paraffin (C28H58) durchgeführt.
Aus den Änderungen der Linienbreite konnte geschlossen werden, daß im Falle des PÄ durch die Vernetzung zwischen benachbarten Ketten Gitterstörungen II. Art (parakristalline Störungen) hervorgerufen werden. Sie führen auch zu einer beträchtlichen Aufewitung des Gitters. Im Falle des Paraffins dagegen wirken sich die durch Bestrahlung erzeugten Fehlstellen als Gitterstörungen I. Art (quasithermische Störungen) aus. Dasselbe wurde auch bei den POM‐Einkristallen beobachtet.
Die Bestrahlung bei erhöhten Temperaturen führt in allen Fällen zu einer schnelleren Zerstörung des Kristallgitters. Die PÄ‐Kristalle zeichneten sich dadurch aus, daß oberhalb von etwa 65°C die Reflexverschiebung nicht mehr kontinuierlich vonstatten geht wie unter Bestrahlung bei Raumtemperatur, sondern daß eine zweite, hexagonale Phase während der Bestrahlung entsteht.
Die Arbeit befaßt sich mit der Strukturaufklärung von Polymerholz. Bei der Herstellung von Polymerholz wird ein Teil des Monomeren (Styrol) an die Holzsubstanz gepfropft, das Homopolymerisat ist extrahierbar. Beide Anteile wurden untersucht.
