Le terme anglo-saxon de trash permet de qualifier non seulement des pratiques mais aussi des communautés. Les poor white trash américains sont ainsi les « rebuts de la société » étasunienne, alors même qu’ils appartiennent au groupe ethno-racial dominant. Ils font l’expérience d’une minorité si infamante qu’elle les places en deçà des groupes minoritaires. Existe-t-il des populations blanches vivant une relégation sociale et culturelle similaire en France et si oui, comment sont-elles représentées ? Si le parallèle avec les poor white trash peut s’entendre pour les populations blanches rurales de certaines régions françaises, il n’en va pas de même pour les jeunes blancs urbains qui vivent également le déclassement social. Ceux-là sont assimilés aux racailles, terme qui qualifie, dans l’imaginaire collectif, des populations racisées. Pour faire l’expérience d’une minorité aussi infamante que celle des poor white trash, il faut cumuler les stigmates. Trois films de Lionel Soukaz mettent en scène son amant, une jeune « caillera » blanche et homosexuelle, obligée de jongler entre ses différentes identités et de redessiner une définition du trash non plus ethno-raciale, mais métisse.
