El presente artículo tiene como objetivo familiarizar los conceptos y fundamentos relacionados con la economía solidaria, así como su aplicabilidad. Describe la economía social y solidaria como un modelo de desarrollo que promueve una nueva alternativa para la economía actual; se basa en la justicia social, la solidaridad y el equilibrio de los recursos. La economía solidaria es un modelo que tiene en cuenta a las personas, la comunidad, el territorio, el desarrollo sostenible y sustentable como referencia prioritaria, por encima de otros intereses. Así, los bienes y servicios están enfocados al territorio y a las comunidades de ahí subyace el concepto de autogestión, cooperación, equidad y el compromiso por el otro.
