The Great Silk Road is a transcontinental trade way that has been bridging the East and the West for many ages now. The Great Silk Road nowadays is viewed as a channel for international cooperation in the area of diplomatic relations, culture, science, trade and tourism. In the year of 2017, Russia is launching the Great Silk Roadan interregional tourist route through the North Caucasus. However, due to the lack of official statistical data, it is not possible to evaluate the demand and the tourist traffic at the destinations along the route. One of the possible ways to get the data is to use search engines and social media. This article offers an analysis of the seasonality for the tourist demand regarding the Great Silk Road destinations, which is done through key retrieval queries submitted to the Yandex search system. Photo geotags have been used to identify the age and gender structure of the tourist flow, as well as the geography of the tourist arrivals. The most popular destinations of the North-Caucasian part of the Great Silk Road have been identified.
The article deals with the practice of application of GIS technology in the study of ethnic processes in Russia. Researchers have developed a ʻGIS Ethnic Atlas of Stavropol Territoryʼ, which allows for comprehensive monitoring of ethnic, demographic and migration processes in the region.
The article discusses the experience of studying the demographic development of the Kavminvodskaya urban agglomeration and its territorial planning taking into account intra-agglomeration differences. The data of official statistics, population censuses, and territorial planning materials are analyzed. The paper provides a historical sketch of the formation of the urban settlements network and the development of links between them, which serves as a basis for understanding the structural features and current trends in the development of the agglomeration. We conducted a detailed study of the regulatory framework containing documents of strategic and territorial planning at the regional and municipal levels. The documents were studied in terms of the agglomeration development management, from the perspective of cities, districts and areas. A comparative analysis of demographic development showed the asynchrony and spatial asymmetry of all its parameters. Population growth, migration, and natural reproduction processes within the constituent elements of the agglomeration system occur differently, with changes in their pace and direction in different years. The greatest contrasts have been revealed between the core cities of the first and second order, suburban settlements, and peripheral areas. The population growth in the agglomeration occurs almost exclusively due to international and intraregional migration, which, to some extent, compensates for the interregional outflow of population. There is noted an increasing population decline, the main factors of which are the aging of population, the transformation of traditional ethno-cultural characteristics under the influence of urbanization, and, in recent years, the spread of the coronavirus infection. The conducted medium-term forecast demonstrates a downward trend of slow agglomeration growth.
ABSTRACT. To date, travel portals represent the most promising tool for promoting tourist destinations. Compared to traditional print media, their main advantage is the ability to access a wealth of information, services, to make online reservations, to create package-tours, and to obtain interactive representation of tourist sites. The paper discusses tourism demand for destinations of the zone of the Great Silk Road applying key statistics of the Yandex search engine queries. A comparative analysis of tourist destinations portal data has been conducted based on the following criteria: availability of multilingual information, interactive maps, selfguided tour planners, and information about attractions, tours, and accommodation facilities. In order to attract a large number of tourists and to successfully implement the project "Silk Road, " it is necessary to establish a common trans-national tourism portal which would include information on tourism opportunities in all countries.KEY WORDS: travel portals, GIS in tourism, geoinformation monitoring in tourism, tourism of the Great Silk Road.
