La memoria es una herramienta cognitiva esencial para el músico debido a que le permite dar sentido a lo que toca y escucha. Por esta razón es una habilidad central en la formación musical. En las clases de solfeo, tradicionalmente se ha trabajado a través de los dictados. Este artículo presenta un análisis de algunos factores que influyen en la memorización de dictados melódicos tonales, con el fin de fundamentar estrategias de enseñanza y aprendizaje para esta materia. Tras el análisis de una parte importante del estado del conocimiento y unas breves recomendaciones, se concluye que, por ser un fenómeno multifactorial, la línea de investigación sobre el desarrollo de la memoria en los dictados requiere mayor investigación para tener certezas sobre su aplicación al aprendizaje. No obstante, este trabajo se presenta como un punto de partida para que docentes y tutores experimenten de manera sistemática en el diseño y evaluación de sus estrategias, fundamentándose en el conocimiento científico alcanzado.
